I used to be a muralist.
In 2004 I needed to have some project for my thesis for the next term. Finally I found what I wanted to do. I wanted to study using new medium and new materials for the traditional Thai mural painting style. Therefore, my project thesis was "the study of using new medium and materials in traditonal Thai mural painting"
Above is me and my friend "TriKlao"Above is Naoko, my foreigner friend. She is Japanese.
Now, you may notice the mural painting behide these people. YES! It's my solo artwork. The mural in Thai painting style from new medium and materials(mainly is using Acrylic instead of colored powder and the gouache method and use gold carbon powder instead of 100% gold leaf.) It started May 13rd 2004 and finished 11 November 2004. This Thai mural painting was created in the Thai traditonal music and dancing club in Khon Kaen University, Khon Kaen.
The picture above is Dancing Shiva.
It comes from the Dancing Shiva on eastern pediment of antechamber of Prasat Phnom Rung (one of the most significant ancient monuments of Thailand.)
I created the Dancing Shiva by using the same action from the Dancing Shiva on eastern pediment of antechamber of Prasat Phnom Rung but I dressed him up to Thai traditional design.
Until the finish.
The picture above is the left side of the mural. The story of this picture comes from the legend of Sathukarn song. When the angels hear the charming sound of the Sathukarn song, they appear themselves and begin to dance so gracefully. The picture above is the right side of the mural. The story of this picture comes from the legend of Sathukarn song also (Sathukarn song is very old Thai song which assume more than 500 years ago) . In the picture you would see 5 gods of music are playing Thai classical instruments, in Thai called Pan Ja Duriyang (5 pieces band). Now, people often can hear this classic sound from our Thai traditional music and dancing club in the university, but we are not play for 5 pieces as the mural, we play 4 pieces (see the picture below.)
